Bruce almighty!
March 18, 2011
We can today announce that Braehead Clan player-coach Bruce Richardson has been rewarded for an outstanding season by being named Ice Hockey Journalists UK’s coach of the year in the Elite League. An achievement that all at the Clan are proud as punch about!
He has been the Clan front man in their inaugural season at Braehead Arena and there is no doubt in the club’s and the fans minds that he was and most definitely is the best man for the job that could have been!
Richardson has led Clan to a fifth place finish in the Elite League this season..a task that has surprised many clubs, officials and sporting buffs. For the former Nottingham Panther, fifth place has also meant setting up a play-off quarter-final against his old club which takes place on Friday 25th March (Braehead home ice) and Saturday 26th March (Nottingham home ice). Richardson’s purple army have also just lifted the 20-20 Aladdin Cup at the National Ice Centre. The trophy last Saturday was the first piece of silverware for the team and a definite feather in the cap for the Club.
Speaking with Bruce he said: “It’s a great honour to win the award, it is always fun when you are recognised for the work you have done. But the team are only as good as the players. I have given them the tools to work with and they are the ones who have built the house and made the team a success. I have to give them great credit for what we have achieved. They are great to work with and they have made my life easier this season by giving 110% and always doing what is best for the team. I set my expectations really high at the start of the season, but the guys have responded and for us to finish fifth in the league and to win a cup in our first year is a great accomplishment. So for me to win this award is a great honour and I’m over the moon about it.”
See Clan’s Bruce Richardson lift his trophy at the Clan’s home game tomorrow night...Clan vs Sheffield Steelers, face off 7pm. Bruce will be presented the trophy prior to the game so make sure you are at the arena and in your seats in plenty of time! We know how much noise the fans can make on a regular night so we are expecting the roof to come off when Bruce lifts his trophy.
Tickets for our Saturday 19th game against Sheffield Steelers can still be purchased via Ticketmaster UK online, by calling the Ticket Hotline on 0844 499 1700 or from the Box Office at Braehead. We advise buying your tickets in advance as this looks like a busy game.
See you there!
