Braehead Clan suffered defeat in their opening Elite League game of the new season as they went down 4-1 to Nottingham Panthers.
Clan were first to find the net when Matt Beca’s square pass across the crease found Scott Pitt at the back post, who smashed it past Miika Wiikman.
The lead lasted 75 seconds when Panthers took advantage of their first powerplay opportunity as Cody Carlsson sat for an interference call.
A quick pass from Chris Lawrence found Matt Carter, who sent it home from just outside the crease as the visitors levelled the game.
Chances from Craig Peacock and Daniel Åhsberg tested Wiikman, but the score remained locked at one apiece after the first 20 minutes.
The game failed to reach the same heights in the second period, but it was no less closely fought as both sides looked for the go-ahead goal.
Robert Lachowicz was denied by a great piece of defensive work by Matt Beca, while Alex Leavitt’s deflected effort trickled narrowly wide.
However Nottingham were able to get the second when Dan Spang’s effort from the inside right fizzed past Michal Zajkowski and into the net to give them the edge going into the final period.
Lawrence slammed home a third for the visitors on the powerplay after Brad Moran’s pass found him lurking at the back post.
Then Erik Lindhagen completed a good night’s work for the Panthers with an empty net goal to make it two wins from two in their league campaign so far.
