Braehead Clan’s opening league weekend ended without a point after Ryan Finnerty’s side were beaten 5-1 in their first trip to Ice Arena Wales.
Devils made an early advantage count when Trevor Hendrikx sat for an instigator penalty after going toe to toe with former team-mate Andrew Lord.
Joey Martin was the man to get the goal and within two minutes of the start, Braehead were a goal down.
Layne Ulmer added a second for the Devils shortly after as they started to take control of the game in terms of the scoreline.
Braehead hit back early in the second period through Alex Leavitt, after he was assisted in his effort by Jeff Ulmer.
But the home side reopened their two-goal lead through Matthew Myers before Jake Morrissette applied a fourth for Cardiff right at the end of the second period.
Braehead’s night was to get worse as Morrissette added his second and Cardiff’s fifth of the night as their lead became more comfortable, leading to them taking the points in the end.
