Belfast Giants
5 - 1

Braehead Clan suffered defeat for the second night in a row as Belfast Giants won 5-1 in the Challenge Cup.

Clan were looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of losing narrowly to Sheffield Steelers, but Giants were having none of it.

Blair Riley was the first to get his name on the scoresheet when he opened the scoring just three and a half minutes into the first period.

Then Chris Higgins doubled the home side’s lead with a finish just before the ten minute mark in the opening session, as Clan’s task began to get harder.

They clawed their way back with a goal from Matt Beca early in the second as Ryan Finnerty’s side looked to kick on.

However Giants reopened the two-goal lead through Mike Forney and tightened their grip on the game when Mark Garside scored a fourth for Belfast near the end of the second.

Craig Peacock and Jonathan Boxill came to blows not long after as tempers frayed a little at the back end of the period.

But the disappointment continued into the third period as Higgins grabbed his second of the night to make it 5-1 to clinch victory for the home side.
