Fife Flyers
2 - 6

The Braehead Clan have reached the last eight of the Challenge Cup with one game to play after defeating Fife Flyers 6-2 to complete a double weekend of wins.

With that last place in the quarter finals up for grabs, it was do or die for both teams as the winner of this game would decide the final qualifying place from Group A.

After Clan’s strong victory on Saturday, they arguably had the confidence and took an early chance when Corey Cowick put them in front inside the opening three minutes.

Scott Pitt, who scored twice against Flyers last night, added a second on the powerplay, slamming home a one-timer teed up by Matt Beca.

The home side struggled to impose themselves in the game and soon found Braehead 3-0 up when Kyle Wharton took advantage of some space to send a shot past Owen.

Things got a little tasty near the end of the opening period when Jay Rosehill was ejected from the game for an incident involving Fife D-man James Isaacs.

Cowick made it four with a well taken shot before completing his hat-trick with a finish on the powerplay.  Matt Sisca pulled one back for Flyers before the end of the second period.

Callum Boyd was kicked out of the game for slew footing early in the third, but Wharton picked up his second of the night to rifle home Clan’s sixth.

Brendan Brooks found the net to reduce Fife’s deficit to four again, but the game was beyond them as Clan took their place in the latter stages of the Challenge Cup.
