Braehead Clan’s hopes of picking up some more league points were dealt a blow as Dundee Stars left Glasgow with a 3-0 win.
It was the first of a double header between the teams, who meet again tomorrow on Tayside on Challenge Cup duty.
But a fight between Jay Rosehill and Dundee’s Justin Faryna got the fans on their feet in the early stages as Clan looked to impose themselves on the game.
But Kevin Hart opened the scoring for the visitors with a shot into the top corner of Michal Zajkowski’s net after being set up by Matt White.
Craig Peacock hit the post at one stage, but Stars increased their lead as Zajkowski successfully stopped Felix-Antoine Poulin’s effort, but couldn’t stop Brett Switzer’s follow-up.
Braehead almost pulled one back when Daniel Åhsberg found himself through on Dundee goalie Joe Fallon, but the Stars man made the save.
Clan had to make a change as Zajkowski didn’t return for the second period through injury, allowing Gary Russell an opportunity between the pipes.
Fallon looked imperious at times as the home side just couldn’t break them down, with efforts from Rosehill, Hammond and another from Åhsberg denied.
But the visitors dealt what proved to be the killer blow as Vinny Scarsella teed up Poulin, who rifled a shot past Russell to effectively clinch the points.
