Dundee Stars
4 - 5

Braehead Clan moved into third in Challenge Cup Group A after grinding out a penalty shots victory over Dundee Stars.

Netminder Gary Russell, in for the injured Michal Zajkowski and Jay Rosehill came up with the goods as the Clan rounded off the weekend with a win.

Matt Keith found the marker first to open the scoring, but Felix-Antoine Poulin had the home side level just before the conclusion of the opening period.

Clan moved ahead early in the second period as Cody Carlsson restored the lead, with Scott Pitt making it 3-1 barely a minute later.

Stars called a timeout in an attempt to plug the leaks that had sprung since the break, but it didn’t help immediately as Mike Hammond increased Braehead’s lead again.

Kevin Bruijsten kicked started a comeback for the home side by notching Dundee’s second midway through the second, giving them a lifeline.

Vinny Scarsella got Marc LeFebvre’s men to within a goal early in the third with Joey Sides tying the game at 4-4 with over ten minutes left on the clock.

Overtime couldn’t separate the teams and penalty shots were required, but the first 16 - eight from either team - couldn’t find their way into the net.

Rosehill stepped up and finally found a way past Joe Fallon, with Sides doing the same at the other end for the Stars.

While Rosehill repeated the feat with his next penalty shot, Sides couldn’t as Clan confirmed the two points to end their Challenge Cup group stage.
