Coventry Blaze
3 - 2

Braehead Clan suffered late heartache as Coventry Blaze’s captain Jordan Pietrus scored with 20 seconds to go to clinch a 3-2 win for the home side at the Skydome.

It was a sad end to what had been a good weekend for the team overall as they look to build on last night's 5-2 victory at Manchester Storm.

Coventry opened the scoring a couple of minutes from the end of the first period when Liam Stewart smashed home from a Ben Davies assist, despite good Clan pressure.

Braehead worked the Blaze hard in the second period, outshooting them 21-9 and by the end of the middle session, had turned the game around in their favour.

Scott Pitt applied the finish at the back door on the powerplay from Matt Beca’s assist to draw the game level.

Then Beca himself got on the scoresheet with an excellent individual goal to give Ryan Finnerty’s side a lead it can be argued that they deserved.

Kevin Noble hit the post right at the end of the period, but Clan managed to take a slender lead into the locker room.

Former Clan player Ben Davies, making his home debut for Danny Stewart’s side, restored parity with a swipe from close range that left Gary Russell in the Braehead net beaten.

Blaze goalie Brian Stewart denied Kyle Wharton with an incredible pad save as time ticked down and no sign of either team giving an inch in the final stages.

However Clan blinked first as Jordan Pietrus sunk the Glasgow side with 20 seconds to go to keep the points in Coventry, who have now won three of their last four.
