Braehead Clan suffered another mixed weekend on the road as Cardiff Devils clinched victory in a closely fought 4-3 win at Ice Arena Wales.
Clan arrived in South Wales in the back of a come-from-behind 5-4 victory over Manchester Storm, looking to do what they couldn’t quite last week - complete a four point weekend on the road.
Iron Maiden lead singer Bruce Dickinson added a touch of razzmatazz to the occasion as he dropped the puck at the beginning of the game.
Against the league leaders, it was never going to be easy, but when Mike Hammond opened the scoring barely five minutes in, the early signs were positive.
The home side battled back later on the opening period when Guillaume Doucet fired in the equaliser for Cardiff to end the first session tied at one apiece.
Craig Peacock put Braehead in front again during the second period as he was assisted by Alex Leavitt six minutes in.
But Josh Batch brought the Devils back on level terms for Andrew Lord’s men as another period ended within no clear indicator over where the points were going.
That changed as Cardiff kicked on in third period, as Doucet picked up his second of the game to give them the lead for the first time.
Then Joey Martin added a fourth as the Devils opened up a two-goal lead early in the third to make things difficult for Braehead.
Scott Pitt pulled Clan to within one in the final minute, but it wasn’t enough as Cardiff took the points in the end.
