Braehead
2 - 3
Sheffield Steelers

Matt Keith got two goals on the night, but it wasn’t enough as Sheffield Steelers edged an entertaining contest 3-2 at intu Braehead Arena.

It ended a run of six consecutive home wins for the Clan as they head into two tough road trips in Fife and Coventry next week, but they took Steelers all the way.

Steelers’ Zack Fitzgerald saw his night come to a premature end when a kneeing incident on Mike Hammond saw him earn a 5+Game penalty as the Clan forward hobbled off.

The extended powerplay paid off for the home side when Stefan Della Rovere set up Matt Keith in front of the crease, who redirected the puck past Sheffield goalie Ervins Mustukovs.

Paul Thompson’s side came out strongly in the second period and the pressure they put on the Clan defence paid off when they got the equaliser.

John Armstrong’s low shot beat Clan netminder Michal Zajkowski at his glove side to restore parity for the visitors.

Luke Ferrara found some space in front of the home crease to try one on the goalie, but the Swede was equal to it.

Then Mustukovs pulled off an amazing save from Bari McKenzie, who drifted in from the left and tried to loop the puck over the Sheffield man.

But the visitors got themselves in front as Markus Neilson helped to set up Robert Dowd, who sent the puck home with a one-timer.

The visitors opened up a two-goal lead as Dowd was teed up by Levi Nelson and send a terrific shot into the net.

Keith hit back again as Alex Leavitt’s effort was tapped by Della Rovere before the Clan captain made sure with another redirect to close the gap to one.

Despite a late surge by the home team - including a moment where Della Rovere thought he had squeezed the puck in at the near post - Steelers hung on for victory.
