Coventry Blaze
4 - 5

Matt Beca’s overtime goal completed an incredible comeback for Braehead Clan after overturning a 4-2 deficit to win 5-4 at Coventry Blaze.

Coventry enjoyed the better of the opening exchanges when Matt Marquardt found himself in a one-on-one situation with Clan goalie Michal Zajkowski and duly finished into the top corner.

Braehead were level minutes later through Alex Leavitt, who took his chance against Blaze goalie Brian Stewart.

Marquardt and Cody Carlson dropped the gloves to get the fans on their feet in what was turning into an already fascinating contest.

It was the visitors who took the lead as Craig Peacock set up Jay Rosehill to score just over two minutes before the end of the opening period.

Josh Godfrey made sure both teams were back on level terms before the break to make it 2-2 after the opening 20.

The two goalies remained blank for much of the second period, but it was Coventry that found their way as Ross Venus put them in front late on.

Then he added his second and Coventry’s fourth early in the final stanza after being teed up by former Clan favourite Ben Davies and the Blaze were two ahead.

That advantage didn’t last long though as Leavitt added his second of the game to bring the Clan to within one, setting up an exciting end to the game.

However Rosehill’s night was ended prematurely as he was called on a headbutting penalty that saw him ejected from the game.

This didn’t deter the Clan as they pushed the pressure to try and get another back in an attempt to equalise once again.

It paid off as Scott Pitt was the man to get it with a couple of minutes remaining of regulation time, taking the contest into overtime.

Beca was the man to step up, finishing off a chance from close range sealing a big road win going into next weekend’s final regular season weekend.
