A late equaliser put Braehead Clan’s quarter final tie on a knife edge after a 3-3 draw with Nottingham Panthers.
Panthers took the lead when Matt Carter jammed the puck in at the far post to beat Michal Zajkowski after he was assisted by Jeff Brown.
Logan MacMillan thought he had added a second when his shot from halfway inside the Clan defensive zone looked to fly into the net, but it was chopped off.
Visiting goalie Miika Wiikman was tested late on the first period with chances by Alex Leavitt and Scott Pitt, but their goal remained unblemished.
Nottingham doubled their lead with 39 seconds into the middle period when Alex Nikiforuk scramble the puck in.
But Clan managed to pull one back as Wiikman saved Craig Peacock’s initial shot, only for Matt Beca to tuck away the rebound.
Matt Keith struck the post shortly after as Ryan Finnerty’s side chased the equaliser, but they ended the second trailing 2-1.
Keith finally got the leveller with a well struck backhanded shot early in the third before Lee Baldwin’s shot from wide left landed in the Panthers’ net via the cross bar.
Daniel Åhsberg’s 5 + Game penalty for elbows made it a nervy finale, from which Carter picked his second to equalise with two minutes to go.
But with the tie poised at 3-3 with another 60 minutes to go, it could go either way.
