1 - 4
Lowen Frankfurt

Löwen Frankfurt took home the intu Cup after beating Braehead Clan 4-1 on the night and coming up trumps in the penalty shots decider.

The Germans were keen to leave Glasgow with something to show for their efforts, following Saturday’s 5-4 loss.

Like Saturday, they picked up the first goal early in the opening period as Marlon Sabo’s blue line shot was redirected past Gary Russell by Brett Breitkreutz in the Clan goal.

The visitors added a second with Nils Lisegang scoring his second of the weekend as he looked up from a central position and sent a shot into the net stck side.

Clan showed good work rate and tenacity, despite trailing the Germans, with Jordan Buesa typifying the energy the team were showing for much of the game.

However Frankfurt moved into a three-goal lead with Clarke Breitkreutz picking up his second of the game, forcing the puck over the line despite Russell’s best efforts to keep it out.

The home team reduced the appears to two as Craig Peacock forced Florian Proske into a save, with Brendan Brooks sweeping in the rebound.

Clan found hard as they created openings and once again asked questions of their German opponents, but found them in stubborn mood.

With eight minutes to go, Paul Gardner’s men sealed victory as Clarke Breitkreutz picked up his second of the game to clinch the 4-1 win.

Because Clan had won Saturday’s meeting, the series came down to penalty shots, in which Lisegang was the only player to have success.

Braehead Clan return to home ice on Thursday, where they take on the University of Manitoba Bisons, who won and lost over Belfast Giants in their two games this weekend.
