Manchester Storm
4 - 1

Jacob Doty’s third goal of the weekend ended up as a consolation as Glasgow’s Braehead Clan fell to Manchester Storm in the second of two Challenge Cup ties this weekend.

Confidence was high in the Braehead camp after the pulsating 7-5 victory over Ryan Finnerty’s men on Saturday, but the lack of depth was always going to be a concern.

Despite performing well in the first period, it was Storm that edged in front through Mike Hammond, who sent a well-hit shot into the net past Ryan Nie.

Clan had to wait until the second period to pull level as Doty’s effort hit the bar and rebounded into the net to gain parity.

Another of the ex-Clan players, Matt Beca, picked up Manchester’s second late on in the second period.

John Tripp’s side didn’t let up as they looked to pull themselves level again, hitting the post then denied on a breakaway to make Storm and their fans sweat.

Paul Swindlehurst’s goal in the third period seem to relieve the tension in the Storm Shelter when he slotted home their third to put them in a great position.

A couple more chances from Braehead nearly breached the Storm rearguard, but Dane Byers killed the game off with an empty net goal to complete their win.
