Fife Flyers
1 - 3

Glasgow’s Braehead Clan are the champions of Scotland after beating Fife Flyers 3-1 in the final of the Scottish Elite Cup.

The rivalry between the country’s oldest and newest clubs was renewed in explosive fashion, making the next meeting between them hotly anticipated.

Ryan Nie, in a man of the match performance, made some key saves in the first period as Chase Schaber, Ian Young and Carlo Finucci were all denied at various points.

The Clan looked every bit as deadly going forward so when Tyler Shattock set up Brendan Brooks, the #49 wasted no time in blasting a low shot past Andy Iles, the Fife goalie.

Braehead added a second on the powerplay in the early stages of the second through Landon Oslanski as he appeared to get a final touch on Cameron Burt’s powerful drive.]

Having another man advantage helped John Tripp’s side in adding a third from a shot by Craig Peacock, firing in a direct shot.

There had been simmering tensions in the game and they seemed to all come to a head in the spell between the end of the second and start of the third periods.

Oslanski and Danick Gauthier got to grips with each other first before Clan were given a penalty shot.  However Mike Embach was denied by an excellent block by Iles.

Other scraps followed involving Craig Cescon, Shattock, Brooks and Oslanski as frustrations boiled over to set up quite an ending.

Fife clawed one back, with Ian Young finishing a well worked passing move, but it was all Todd Dutiaume’s side could muster in the closing stages.

The buzzer went to confirm Braehead Clan as the Scottish Elite Cup winners with the tournament set to take place in Kirkcaldy next season.
