Braehead Clan can today confirm that 22 year old defenceman Craig Mitchell will join the Clan on a full time contract for the 2013/14 season.
The 6’0ft Kirkcaldy native had previously played for the Clan on a dual contract in 2012/13, playing full time for the Solway Sharks in the NIHL and joining the Clan when his schedule permitted. However, for 2013/14, Mitchell has committed to playing full time for the Clan.
Mitchell has previously played in the EIHL for the Edinburgh Capitals and the Hull Stingrays. Mitchell briefly signed for the Dundee Stars in 2011/12. Mitchell played in 5 games for the Clan last season whilst joining them for training sessions throughout the season, and played in 25 games for the Solway Sharks. Mitchell finished the season with 18 points (1 goal + 17 assists) for the 2012/13 NIHL league winning Solway Sharks. Mitchell has also played for the GB U18’s and U20’s squads.
Clan head coach Ryan Finnerty had the following to say on the signing “I have always liked Craigs style of play and I think he will do well for us. He is a gritty player who works hard every shift. I am looking forward to having him on the team next season.”
Mitchell added “I’m delighted to have signed for the Clan and look forward to being part of what promises to be an exciting season.”
“It was always my intention to return to the Elite League after my year away exploring other work opportunities, and I see no better fit than here in Braehead"
