Glasgow’s Braehead Clan suffered a setback in their pre-season preparations as they went down 7-1 to University of Manitoba Bisons.

Coach John Tripp tried out different combinations as he experimented with his squad, but it wasn’t to be on a night that saw the visitors end their UK tour with three wins from four.

Clan started the game well in the first period, peppering shots in on Bisons goalie Byron Spriggs as they looked to make early inroads.

But the visitors got the opener when a pass from home goalie Gary Russell was intercepted by Jonah Walysak, who gratefully tucked into the empty net.

Tripp’s men tried to hit back immediately as Landon Oslanski teed up Brendan Brooks with a wonderfully executed diagonal pass, but found Spriggs equal to it.

However Bisons struck again as Zach Franko squeezed a chance in at Russell’s near post to double their lead.

They made it three shortly after when Adam Henry slotted a rebound in after Remi Laurencelle was denied by Russell.

But they ended the period 4-0 up as Nick Zajac finished from close range after combining with Warren Callis with Blake Heinrich adding a fifth early in the second.

Clan eventually got on the scoresheet as Craig Peacock finished off his own rebound after being denied by Spriggs initially.

Despite this, they never really recovered as Michael St Croix made it 6-1 followed by Shawn Bowles rounding off a good night of scoring for the Canadian outfit.
