Two goals from Tyler Shattock made Glasgow’s Braehead Clan party poopers as they dampened the homecoming of the recently crowned Challenge Cup winners Belfast Giants.

For Braehead, victory would keep the run to the play-offs going especially considering Coventry were in Dundee with either team looking to bolster their own aspirations.

After a tight opening period, it was the Giants who took the lead with a goal a few minutes from the end of the session as Colin Shields broke away and finished shorthanded.

After being outshot by 20 to five, it needed a big reaction from the Clan and some of the fans had barely returned to their seats for the second period when they were back on level terms.

Brendan Brooks was the one to get it in the opening minute after the restart with an unassisted goal to put Braehead on level terms.

Six minutes later, the visitors were in front with a powerplay as Shattock goal with a Landon Oslanski assist.

John Tripp’s men extended the lead in the final stages of the second period when Cameron Burt hit the mark with 13 seconds to go.

Then Clan went 4-1 up in the early stages of the third as Jacob Doty fired in the third powerplay goal of the night and they had established something of a cushion.

Belfast weren’t out of it yet and Sebastien Sylvestre cut Braehead’s lead to two with a goal on 46 minutes to give them a lifeline.

Brendan Connolly then heightened the hopes of the home crowd with Giants’ third with three and a half minutes to play.

But Shattock hit Belfast on the empty net to confirm two massive points for the Clan on the road to start the weekend off in the best possible way.
