Glasgow’s Braehead Clan forward Tyler Scofield has announced his retirement from the sport.

The 33-year-old joined the club last summer from German DEL2 side Starbulls Rosenheim, where he played against recently departed Clan coach John Tripp.

Scofield followed Tripp to Scotland and played 46 times, scoring 19 times and assisting in a further 20 in what’s turned out to be his last campaign.

But despite disappointments on the ice, with the club missing the play-offs, Scofield spoke warmly of his time at Braehead.

“We enjoyed our time here at Braehead and my kids have certainly enjoyed it,” Scofield said. “In fact, my oldest boy keeps saying, ‘But I like it in Scotland’.”

“We had a great group of guys and it was a good team to finish on.  All the wives and partners got along, which was a good thing.

“It’s a good season to go out with and now I’m about to embark on the next phase of my life.  There’s an opportunity back home I want to pursue and it’s a good one to look at.

“I want to thank the Purple Army and all the fans who have been lovely to my family and I and I appreciate everything they’ve done.

“We had great support and I wish them all the best.  I hope the Clan can get themselves back into top seeding next year too.”

Clan Hockey & Operations Director Gareth Chalmers added: “Tyler has been a pleasure to have around the club this season.

“I know Tyler wouldn’t have wanted his career to end the way it did, however he can be very proud of what he has achieved in North America and here in Europe.

“We all wish Tyler and his family all the very best heading into the future.”
